Xavier Capdevila, MD, PhD is full Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and Chair at the Medical University in Montpellier, France. He is Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Lapeyronie University Hospital, Montpellier, France. He is member of the Inserm Unit U 1051 of the Montpellier NeuroSciences Institute. He was president of the Scientific Committee of the French Society of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine and full member of the council of the European Society of Anesthesiologists, then president of the French Society of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine . He was president of the French College of Anesthesiologists-Intensivists. The professional interests of Prof Capdevila are centered on perioperative medicine, regional anesthesia techniques, postoperative use of continuous regional blocks, acute postoperative pain and postoperative rehabilitation, highlighting patient's outcome. This has led him to more than 300 clinical and experimental studies on the interest of regional blocks for postoperative pain relief, rehabilitation and ambulatory surgery in adult or pediatric orthopedic patients as well as experimental research fields in myotoxic and neurotoxic effects of local anesthetics. He was Editorial Board Member of Anesthesia and Analgesia from 2006 to 2012 and Associate Editor of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine from 2004 to 2009. He is actually Executive Handling Editor for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and Assocaite Editor to Anesthesia Critical Care and Pain Medicine.
